Do Not Give Up!

Story: (WATCH VIDEO FIRST!)

My blog post is about a viral video (with about 14 million views), that would be very significant for your life. This video is about a great man, Derek Anthony Redmond, who is the definition of someone who never gives up.

In 1992 at the Barcelona Olympics, the 400 meter dash was starting. At about 150 metres, suddenly Derek tore his hamstring badly! (which is three muscles behind your thigh). Injured and hurt he still completed his race with his helping and great father coming out of the crowd fighting his way in! Derek was not willing to give up even though he was last. With over 65,000 people in a standing ovation clapped and cheered Derek on.

After and Brief Achievements

Derek is a retired British athlete. He got the British record for the 400 metre sprint in his career. Derek was a part of the Nike "courage commercials" in 2008. Derek was born on September 3rd, 1965. After two years of his injury a surgeon told him that his running career was completely done, so he decided to join the pro-basketball team known as the Birmingham Bullets.

My Thoughts

I think this was a really great story, and video to learn from. There should be more people like this and I guarantee you will succeed in your life if you use this quote. The thing that struck me most was when Derek’s dad came in the middle of the race to help him and stop him (so caring).

2016 Rio de Janeiro Summer Olympics

On Friday, August 5, 2016 the summer Olympics are back again!!! The most recent Olympics were the 2014 winter Sochi Olympics. This year, the summer Olympics are going to be in Rio de -Janeiro, Brazil (as you can obviously tell by the title). I am very excited to watch the multiple sports, and watch which country wins the specific sport. My favourite sports to watch in the Olympics would be swimming, volleyball, basketball, and sprinting. The first Olympics happened in Athens, Greece on the 6th of April 1896.

The summer Olympics happen every 4 years and winter every 4 years, but they are 2 years apart from each other. There are about 28 sports in total in the summer Olympics, and winter has about 15 sports in total of each category. Many people from many teams gather around in one country/city to compete and make their families and countries happy. Sometimes new records appear for each sport. I am not going all the way to Brazil to watch the Olympics (although that would be awesome!); I will just watch it on my TV on HD. In Rio, Brazil there is a giant statue of a man which is a big landmark in the south which is called Christ the Redeemer. May the best athlete win!
