Surprise.....Surprise.... for Mom
Did you guys prepare a mother’s day gift for your mom last Sunday? When my sister and I were watching television (T.V.) last May 5, a commercial popped up in the T.V. screen saying that May 8 is a special day for all the mothers out there. We were both caught by surprise and we looked at each other as we almost forgot that Mother’s Day will be in three days. We completely forgot to make a special Mother’s Day gift for our mom.
Every special occasion like Valentines Day, Christmas, Father’s Day and Mother’s Day, we make it a point to prepare surprises for our parents. We always have banners, cards, and other decorative stuff. For the past few years, it was my older sister who organized the surprises. But this year, I was the one who thought of an amazing idea for my mom this Mother’s Day.
On the evening of May 5, I told my sister that we will make a giant heart-shaped memory arrangement for our mom with the use of various pictures. We actually brought several pictures from the Philippines which we think will bring back memories of our mom being a loving mother and wife.
We started our plan every night by looking for pictures which we think will make our mom reminisce the essence of being a mother. We did that during bedtime, without my parent’s knowledge. We also cut heart-shaped colored papers in different sizes to use as a background. We make them believe that we are already sleeping but in reality, we are actually preparing the surprise.
On the eve of May 8, we again went to our room and pretended that we were both sleeping so that our parents will not notice us. When we knew that they were sleeping already, we tiptoed at the living room and worked on the gift (it was actually midnight at that time)...We assembled the pictures of their honeymoon, the birth of my sister and myself, a several happy occasions and events that we have attended as family and shaped everything like a heart. We scattered the small heart-shaped colored papers and the big ones were filled with the letters - HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY. We also did our respective messages for our mom in the big heart-shaped colored papers that we likewise cut. Even though we did not get enough sleep (just for three days) and had a hard time being quiet (so as not to disturb them), our effort was worth it when we saw the big smile on our mom’s face. She even took pictures of it from her mobile phone and camera. She was very delighted to see the efforts that my sister and I have done for her. Lastly, we gave our letters to her and she was teary-eyed because of our warm messages that we wrote for her.
My mom told us that every year we never ceased to surprise her with wonderful gift ideas. Since she knows that we still cannot give her material things, being there for her, loving and obeying her is the best gift that she has received from us. We love you Mom!
