The Extinct Animal Koala Lemur

There are many animals that are extinct now, but the Koala Lemur is the animal that introduces us to a characteristic that we would never imagine an animal to possess. The involved Koala Lemur that once lived upon the trees of the arboreal environment of Madagascar is now among the extinct animals. Its scientific name is Megaladapis which means giant adapiform. The Megaladapis was named in 1894 by Charles Immanuel Forsyth, but scientists say that according to the age of the habitat, they must have been there long before. The Magaladapis was bestowed the name Koala Lemur because of how it displays a strong similarity to the Koala. The photograph taken of the Megaladapis shows how remarkable the similarities between Koalas in addition how strikingly different appearance from Lemurs. Its eyes were located on the sides of its skull accompanied with a set of long canine teeth that forms a tapering snout. Long arms and legs finished the touch of this incredible creature. This extinct animal grew to 1.5 meters long 12Function
(5ft) and weighs approximately 75kg.The Megaladapis was known for its ability to climb trees and swinging from tree to tree. Some scientists state that Megaladapis might have been flexible but know one knows for sure. The reason the Megaladapis involved is because of the constant changes throughout the forests. In the process, the Megaladapis adapted long arms, fingers, feet and toes specialized for grasping trees in addition strong jaw muscles for chewing tough native vegetation. The biome the Megaladapis lived in is the arboreal environment that offers unlimited vegetations that the Megaladapis feed upon. Therefore in other words, the Megaladapis is a herbivore. The Megaladapis is located at Madagascar which is an island country in the Indian Ocean of the Southeast Africa and is the forth largest island in the world. The Megaladapis had no defences because the environment was devoid of predatory animals. Like the Dodo bird, the Megaladapis was trusting and vulnerable. Since it has been years since the Megaladapis lived on Earth, Scientists have no proof if they migrate or hibernate during the harsh seasons. But one thing that scientists knows for sure is that the Megaladapis is often found alone. The behavior of this animal is unknown along with the existence. When the people who first colonised Madagascar from the mainland Megaladapis, home destruction and over hunting were made. The low breeding rates were added to the problem which leads to the
result of extinction. The Conservation status that the Megaladapis was extinct in 1280-1420CE, but this state has not been proven yet. The Koala Lemur is not spoken of today but scientists are still trying to figure out details about this creature. Fossils and pictures of this animal is all we have today to examine. Traces of the landscape the Koala Lemurs lived in had been destroyed by humans, leaving us to only wonder and predict what the Koala Lemur was like. Many animals are in the risk of going extinct and we humans need to help them or else one they animals will only be a myth.
